16. Hello, My Name Is Saint

In one service I asked people to turn to one another and introduce themselves, saying, "Hello, my name is Saint..." That exercise helped most people think about themselves in a new light. All except one man.

My wife Anna was sitting next to him. She turned and said to him, "I'm Saint Anna."

The man paused, and then said, "I can't say it."

Thinking him shy, she prompted him, "You don't have to feel awkward. Remember, we're saints because of Jesus, not ourselves."

"I know. I believe that firmly," he said.

"Well, just say it, then."

"No. I'm not saying it."

Then he paused, smiled, and lowered his voice. "My name is Bernard."
